ABSTRACT

Applying lifestyle measures to the treatment of obesity such as increased physical activity and consumption of a diet with lower energy density can prove beneficial. These lifestyle measures may be used in conjunction with newly available pharmaceutical agents to help combat the worldwide pandemic of obesity. Lifestyle measures carry virtually no adverse side effects and are widely applicable both to individuals and on a population- wide level. Lifestyle measures are key components of the WHO initiative to counteract the growing problem of non-communicable disease (NCDs) around the world. Lifestyle measures are destined to play an increasing role in health care in the future.
