ABSTRACT

Physical activity lowers the risk of weight gain. Regular physical activity, particularly aerobic activity, can result in increased cardiorespiratory fitness and decreased risk for a variety of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, which are associated with obesity. Resistance exercise has not been demonstrated to provide significant fat loss. However, it may result in increase in lean muscle mass, even during weight loss. Researchers in weight loss have found a considerable variability in response to physical activity. A number of factors may contribute to this including biological factors and influence on both other components of energy expenditure and factors influencing adherence to physical activity.
