ABSTRACT

Chemicals have found extensive application in the agricultural system due to its benefits in increasing agricultural productivity and in minimizing the pests’ population. It is widely accepted that pesticides are capable enough in the rapid and successful removal of target pests. However, the negative and chronic irreparable impacts it imposes on the environment and on the health of living beings cannot be overruled. Pesticide resistance, pest resurgence, and pest residues are the major challenges caused by the prolonged use of pesticides. Alternate pest management techniques, integrated efforts of man and natural pest agents and the judicious Integrated Pest Management, are needed to safeguard the human, other living organisms, and the environment. In this chapter, the development of pesticide resistance in pests and resurgence has been discussed in detail, along with the solution tactics for effective pesticide pollution management.70
