ABSTRACT

Composting is a process that involves the breakdown or decomposition of a substrate by living organisms in a progressive manner. In these processes, microbes that are indigenous to substrate; this process is instigated by the disintegration of larger or complex molecules present in the unprocessed substrate to simpler ones by means of microorganisms that are indigenous to substrate. Vermicomposting involves the transformation of organic waste by means of microbes and earthworms to those products that are safe and sound to be used as soil conditioners and bio-fertilizers. The rate and degree of composting depend on temperature, moisture, aeration, and pH.
