ABSTRACT

The industry 4.0 exploits various advancements of new digital technologies to connect between physical devices, people, and processes. Currently many industries including cement industry have started with digital transformation initiatives but only few have systematic approach toward the implementation to benefit on reducing cost of operation and increasing the overall efficiency.

This chapter focuses on the systematic approach with implementing various components of digital solutions. We also explore the transformation within many of the current on-premises like control system, machine control, APC, LIMS, etc., and the new Cloud-based solutions to support increased plant asset availability and performance. It is also driving the connected cement plant ecosystem with connected assets, connected Insights, connected operations, connected people, connected processes, and connected innovation.

With the Cloud-based solution architecture, it is now possible to build and deploy solutions faster with learning from one asset or plant to another asset or plant much easily driven by data and facts. It is also now possible to connect, operate, and support plant operators in real time from remote locations without traveling to the plant or site.

Finally, the transformation is not a tool or process but is more a journey, and this chapter explains how the cement plant can get started exploring these various digital solutions across the plant and build the digital change culture within the organization.
