ABSTRACT

Character education needs to be developed in all subjects, including mathematics. Ethnomathematics is a program that presents mathematical concepts related to the cultural background of students. This study aims to assess attitudes and characteristics of students after lessons based on ethnomathematics. Data were obtained through a questionnaire given to 25 Grade 8 junior high school students (12 female, 13 male). Results showed that, in general, students behaved positively toward ethnomathematics and that, by learning mathematics based on ethnomathematics, they improved their love of Indonesian culture as well. By learning mathematics based on ethnomathematics, character education can therefore be developed.
