ABSTRACT

Hair disorders – dandruff, grey hair and greasy hair – not only suppress the individual's self-confidence; they increase the severity of hair loss that dramatically affects an individual's quality of life. Anti-hair loss or hair growth promoting products are noted as the major segment of hair care cosmetics. Hair loss can be successfully treated with synthetic agents i.e. minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride; nevertheless, their adverse effects compare poorly with the milder and fewer side effects from efficient phytocosmetics treatment. In this chapter, phytocosmetics for hair care are summarized. Both those in current used and future candidates are addressed. Research is needed on multi-faceted assessment of the development of innovative phytocosmetics for hair care to chime with consumer preferences.
