ABSTRACT

Malodorant compounds generating unpleasant body and oral odors are clearly one of the strong non-verbal signals diminishing an individual's self-confidence. Although metal salts and anti-microbial agents are present in the commercial products for malodorant treatment, these actives are insufficient or unsuitable in some cases with side effects that compromise usability and safety. Phytocosmetic actives are a promising choice not only to suppress the formation of bad odor but also to perfume and enhance products. Taking into account their activities and conceivable safety, phytocosmetics for malodor treatment feature strongly in the consumer expectations. In this chapter, the phytocosmetic ingredients are summarized with a future prospective on phytocosmetics for unscented/odorless/fragrance free products.
