ABSTRACT

Over the past decade, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has emerged as one of the technological trends. It basically serves as Internet of Thing’s (IoT’s) latest version for the development in industrial area with the help of automated smart devices that sense, collect, process, and communicate with the industrial real-time events. However, it has also encountered some security issues as the present security measures are not enough for the IoT systems; therefore, big data analytics and machine learning (ML) serve an important purpose in IoT as they analyze and secure the data in a system. In this chapter, we present an extensive survey of the enabling technologies, attacks, and their countermeasures in an IIoT ecosystem. The chapter highlights the background, communication protocols, and different types of attacks that can be launched in IIoT scenario. Further, the chapter explores the role of various ML techniques to identify attacks and build a secure defense policy. This chapter also discusses various enabling technologies that help to establish the foundation of IIoT. Finally, the most prevalent challenges in IoT and IIoT scenarios are enumerated.
