ABSTRACT

The impact of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is increasing rapidly. These networks have been rapidly adopted due to their scalability, low-power requirement, affordability, comfortable ad hoc network design, and flexibility in implementation.. WSNs are used in health care, military, industry, weather stations, home automation, and many other sectors. As usability increases, the attack vectors also increase with time. Various types of attacks in a WSN can disrupt the confidentiality, authenticity, availability, and integrity of sensor data. Considering the widespread usability of WSNs, a comprehensive study of the WSN architecture, security attacks, and countermeasures is crucial for scientists, researchers, and potential learners. In this study, the underlying architecture, applications, security requirements, threats, vulnerabilities, and possible countermeasures of WSNs are discussed in detail. The primary motivation of this study is to facilitate the readers to acquire a concise and comprehensive knowledge of WSNs.
