ABSTRACT

Traditional medicine has identified several plants as sources of phytochemicals with antioxidant properties. Among these, we can mention those plants of the genus Moringa, which is a multifunctional perennial angiosperm plant, member of the Moringaceae family; all parts of this plant have been used in traditional medicine to treat many ailments such as anemia, skin infections, asthma, bronchitis, cholera, diabetes, pain, respiratory disorders, sore throat, among others. These beneficial effects can be attributed to their composition in bioactive compounds such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, flavanol glycosides, glucosinolates and isothiocyanates, terpenes, alkaloids, and sterols. All these compounds are present in the different Moringa species and contribute to their antioxidant activity.
