ABSTRACT

The classic dissemination process is well worn: first, complete the research; submit an abstract and a poster to a suitable conference; then write an academic paper and submit it to journal. There is not a single correct method to disseminate research, and context is critical. Establishing the key messages of the research is an essential element in the process of disseminating one's work. It is important to create a title that is easily understood, with important keywords included. Spend time on refining the abstract, as it will be the single most read section. Some suggestions to help improve interactions with journals and getting published are provided. Any consideration of dissemination of research these days would not be complete without touching on the subject of social media. It remains the case that publishing articles in academic journals is the central plank of most dissemination strategies, yet it is possible to finesse, even innovate, with a little thought and planning.
