ABSTRACT

The usage of these sound absorbing materials has drastically increased owing to the fact that it has low density and has usage in various fields including construction of aircraft, spacecraft, and ships. In various acoustical fields, foams are extensively used due to its simple processing, availability, and superior vibration damping capability. In general, acoustics property of any material is determined by its structural parameters. Also, it is a laborious task to prepare a variety of non-woven fabric samples with different proportions of fiber content to carry out experiments. In this paper, we have applied machine learning algorithms to predict the sound absorption coefficients of a foam. To achieve this, we have employed a linear-regression-based method to predict the absorption coefficient of layered material at different frequencies. Using the proposed linear regression-based method, we have achieved a Mean-Square-Error of 0.0020 and it is significantly better than the other state-of-the-art methods.
