ABSTRACT

Elections have been happening around the world for ages, and in most democracies around the world, there are well-defined processes for conducting elections for electing the representatives of the people who frame policies and make decisions on behalf of the people. With the advent of digital, communication, and internet technologies and their continuous improvements over the years, these technologies have penetrated deep into the election system also, of course, for good reasons, although different countries might have different levels of adoption of these technologies. India has been one of the leaders in Asia in adopting digital technologies in the election process. The induction of new technological tools in the electoral process has ensured glitch-free elections in recent times. This chapter attempts to cover the journey of this transformation and the various components of the Indian election system in which information technology has made a visible impact.
