ABSTRACT

Fasciitis is an acute inflammatory disease of the fascia, either due to immune-mediated reaction or acquired by intramuscular vaccinations. The inflammation is localized to the fascia and rarely infiltrates into the muscle fibers. Perimysial inflammation is always present and associated with lymphohistiocytic infiltrate. Careful clinical history and laboratory investigations help the clinician to reach the diagnosis. Muscle biopsy is performed to rule out any abnormal myopathic or neuropathic conditions. In this chapter, we discuss the two common types of inflammatory fasciitis and their clinical and pathological presentations.
