ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been much advancement in technology utilization for the accurate measurement of environmental/metrological parameters that are absolutely indispensable for real-time data monitoring and weather forecasting. A substantial number of real-time environmental parameters measuring systems are deployed at remote locations. Power supply is a big challenge for application performance of such devices. The solar photovoltaic systems, which employ stand-alone and hybrid power systems for such types of devices, have gained much popularity in recent times. The weather parameter measurement systems comprise major embedded systems such as controllers, transmitter-receiver modules, etc., and utilization of solar power in such systems can be considered as a major step in their performance enhancement. In this chapter, the utilization of sensors, controllers such as Arduino microcontroller, and ICT are studied in the field of environmental parameter monitoring. A comparative study is made on the basis of major components used in the developed systems, controllers, measured parameters, modeling size of systems, and applications to increase their efficiency and response time with sudden changes in environment.
