ABSTRACT
A robust design model of a microgrid consisting of hybrid renewable energy sources of solar, wind and battery storage system is presented in this chapter. Various objectives such as economic, environment and reliability aspects are considered in the present design problem. To tackle these contradictory multi-objectives, a complete multi-objective optimization design framework is established considering the intermittence and variability of renewable source and load. To improve the computational efficiency, K-means data clustering is applied, which reduces the operating scenarios to a realistic number. A multi-objective algorithm extended version of non-dominant sorted genetic algorithm (E_NSGAII) is used to solve the design problem of finding the optimal location and capacity of the hybrid renewable source and storage. To accurately scheme the design model, operational constraints of power flow, voltage and so on are considered in this chapter. An IEEE 13 bus system is used as a test case for validation. The result shows that with the present design framework, there is a considerable improvement in reliability, environment and economic benefits.
