ABSTRACT

Web of Things, popularly known as the Internet of Things (IoT), has found wide applicability in fields such as construction of smart cities and homes, digitalization in industries, agriculture, and many more. One of the sectors that have been revolutionized by IoT is healthcare, in which IoT devices are used for efficient monitoring of an individual’s health for personalized health supervision. This chapter discusses the application of machine learning for personal healthcare and remote healthcare management using IoT devices, which is comparatively a new research area that has the scope of growing into a propitious technology for early prognosis of diseases. IoT in conjugation with machine learning has helped in devising efficient treatments for individuals, which is the goal of personalized healthcare. However, there exists a potential threat to information security due to hacking of storage or management systems which need to be kept in mind while devising IoT-based healthcare systems. The applicability of blockchain, which is already used in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, for securing the medical data of individuals to reduce security threat in healthcare industry has also been explored.
