ABSTRACT

In today’s technological society, innovation in healthcare domain is developing day by day for improving the quality of the life. Newborn babies need additional consideration if they are born prematurely. About 35% of newborn babies lose their life as a result of complications during birth and need assistance to keep up their bodily conditions. To maintain bodily conditions, premature babies need to be placed in a neonatal incubator. In this chapter, various incubators such as portable incubator, temperature control, humidity control, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based incubator have been reviewed. Based on the review, an advanced neonatal incubator is proposed that includes the noncontact-type temperature sensor DHT11 model, humidity sensor, photoplethysmography sensor, respiration sensor, HC12 wireless communication module, rechargeable battery, and microcontroller (Arduino Uno), which are used for monitoring the health conditions of newborn babies. The proposed incubator uses IoT which is intended to monitor the neonatal baby constantly and send the monitored health parameters to cloud storage for diagnosis. If something goes wrong, an alarm signal will be delivered to the pediatric expert in the form of a message, thereby preventing the danger of life of the neonatal baby.
