ABSTRACT

Characterization is the key requirement in the development of new composite materials to understand their structure and behavior. It is a basic process in the field of composite materials to understand the relationship of composition to structure and probed properties. The scientific understanding of composite materials could be ascertained without characterization. The characterization of composite materials is done on two scales; one is microscopic characterization in which microscopic structural analyses are carried out by using different techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, etc. and the second is macroscopic characterization in which mechanical, physical, and tribological behaviors are studied. This chapter emphasizes on microstructure characterization of new developing composites and the use of AI and ML techniques for image processing and recognition used for material characterization.
