ABSTRACT
This chapter is an account of the material structure and basic performance characteristics of diode lasers fabricated in the AlGaInP material system using quantum wells and dots and covering the wavelength range from about 635 to 740 nm. This introduction provides background information on material properties and quantum confinement. The two major sections that follow deal specifically with quantum well and quantum dot devices.
