ABSTRACT
Fibre lasers [1] were proposed and studied as a promising laser configuration soon after the discovery and first laser demonstration by Maiman [2]. Ever since lasers have played a central role in the development of the rapidly expanding field of Photonics, which in turn has revolutionized existing, as well as, enabled entire new scientific and industrial sectors.
