ABSTRACT

The article presents an analysis of drawings of the Bakhchisaray Palace Complex (BPC) made by Giacomo Trombaro (in 1784), William Hastie (in 1798), and I.F. Kolodin (1820–1824). The purpose of the study is to perform a comparative analysis of the designs made from 1784 till 1824 by architects G. Trombaro, W. Hastie and I.F. Kolodin for the identification of the architectural and spatial structure of the BPC in the late 18th – early 19th centuries. The study tasks are to identify spatial planning as well as compositional-and-artistic features of the BPC of the end of the 18th – the beginning of the 19th centuries, to analyze the planning pattern of the BPC reflected in the drawings of 1784–1798, 1820–1824, and to give theoretical and practical recommendations on further research with regard to the BPC. In the course of the study, the following methods were used: analysis of literature, historical and academic sources, reports on the studies and works related to BPC restoration, drawings made by G. Trombaro, W. Hastie and I.F. Kolodin. It is established that the restoration and renovation of the BPC, the sole monument of the Crimean Tatar palatial architecture, are necessary for the preservation of the architectural heritage of Crimea.
