ABSTRACT
Identification characteristics of the urban environment play a crucial role in the existence and development of society, enable people to establish their place in the world, discover their belonging to a certain culture. Architecture is a milestone that makes it possible to preserve identification. The article suggests principles of urban environment development considering the three identification levels of the urban environment of a historical city.
