ABSTRACT
The article describes the basic methods of urban planning, architectural and design research to determine the genetic code of Saint Petersburg, sets out the territorial boundaries of the object of study - the city of Saint Petersburg; draws general conclusions of research and design work. The paper proposes a methodology for the study of a historic city with addition of modern buildings. Carriers of the style of Saint Petersburg - the parameters of the environment that underlie the identity of the urban environment – have been identified.
