ABSTRACT

The paper is based on retrospective research of development in dwelling zones in the cities of USSR. It is spoken in detail about reasons for beginnings of multistorey dwelling zones (microdistricts). As the basis for study it’s taken the graphic analytic method of cartographic documentation analysis which is based on aerial and satellite views, including unclassified espionage views from U.S. Geological Survey’s archive. In conclusion it is given recommendations for balanced development in dwelling zones in Russia by analogy with foreign experience.
