ABSTRACT

The internet community is striving to move towards decentralized architecture, where users can have real control over their data. Attempts are being made to remove the brokers and centralized entities present in various case studies. One such use-case, which has not been given much attention in recent years but is worthwhile examining, is the secondary market of domain names. A meaningful and appropriate domain name can increase the website’s traffic by improving the Search Engine Optimization ranking. The exponential growth of the secondary market of the domain that motivates us to work on this idea is: With the exponential growth of internet users, domain ownership has also grown exponentially, thereby creating a massive demand for domain names. The chapter discusses the theoretical background needed to understand the proposed work. Domain names are essentially a combination of letters, digits, and hyphens that are generally chosen so as to convey some meaning, acronyms, or even brand names.
