ABSTRACT

Hospitals have found it useful to have a hospital information system (HIS) to achieve the desired performance. Indeed, HIS is a tool that allows the automation of treatments, the preservation of data, the exchange of information, and the fast execution of tasks. The goal of this chapter is to highlight the role played by the HIS on hospital performance. We concluded that the HIS is one of the fundamental operators of hospital performance, through several benefits such as time-savings, reduction of errors, easy access to knowledge, productivity gains, and improved quality of care.
