ABSTRACT

Vibration signal processing is one of the most efficient techniques for the collection of data using the sensors. Nowadays, development in wireless sensors and their network technologies gives a better platform to evaluate condition assessment of bridge structures remotely based on cloud-based data collection using Industry 4.0 concept. This technique can be used for continuous monitoring of structural behavior, especially for bridges. In this chapter, two different testing techniques forced vibration and ambient vibration are applied on the test bridge for evaluation of structural condition using subspace system identification and least-squares complex frequency approach. Comparative study of forced vibration testing and ambient vibration tests shows that only 3–4% variation and natural frequency of the bridge varies from 5.50 to 5.62 Hz. It is concluded that wireless sensor networks based on Internet of Things (IoT) give satisfactory result without any data loss during cloud computing. It is also observed that the ambient vibration test is more suitable than the force vibration test as it does not 250require traffic shutdown while performing the field test. Therefore, the evaluated technique can also use on various smart infrastructure projects, where dynamic behavior of the structure is essential to evaluate based on the continuous monitoring.
