ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a scientometric analysis of publications on sustainable development (SD) spanning a period from 2000 to 2018 as reflected in Web of Science (WOS) database. Basing upon the records retrieved from the database, it provides useful insights on several dimensions of SD publications. Results indicate that, though there is a steady growth in the quantity of publications, the citations have seen a steep decrease after 2013. China emerged as the leading country in terms of publications, whereas United States found to be the country with most impactful research with high link strength, and it has a strong relationship with other countries, especially with China and England. As per the productivity and influence of the leading researchers identified in author’s collaboration network analysis, Yong Gengleads the other researchers both in number of publications and link strength, whereas Wei Wang found to be the author with high citations. The journal Sustainability appeared to be the leading journal in terms of productivity, whereas Journal of Cleaner Production was found to be the most cited journal. The chapter also reports the intellectual structure of sustainable SD research depicting the research hotspots as well as the research forefronts.
