ABSTRACT
Internet of Things (IoT) has significantly dominated the lifestyle over the past few decades. There remains hardly any sector unaffected by IoT. During the past decade, the IoT is being intensively employed in the automation of homes and buildings thus developing smart homes and smart buildings. In principle, technology in smart homes focuses on providing utmost satisfaction to its occupant with the help of connection and integration of various intelligent and sensing devices. In smart homes, various kinds of devices are deployed to collect and process the data. The authors in this chapter present a summarized review for smart homes with respect to IoT. The chapter also presents the various constraints and challenges for widespread employment of home automation.
