ABSTRACT

Software-defined networking (SDN) is an upcoming technology which is replacing the traditional networking from past few years. SDN is a software approach to control the network equipment. It has separated the control plane and data plane. IoT is Internet of things which connects the objects over Internet. Recent advancements in network design and implementation have enabled the fusion of secure networks and IoT devices. Emergence of SDNs has further increased the possibility to control and implement the secure and reliable communication between different sensors and machines. The main emphasis in IoT is given on interconnecting various objects and further extends its limits over the Internet. As the number of objects to be interconnected is increasing exponentially, there erupts a need for a well-managed network with a higher grade of efficiency due to its complexity. The SDN provides a better solution due to its flexibility in programming the network without any major changes in existing architecture design. In this chapter, a study of different architecture available for SDN in IoT management is presented. Further, a review of some of the SDN-based security solutions is also covered in this chapter. A broad coverage of SDN architectures for wireless sensor networks has been emphasized along with 320SDN-based IoT device security solution study. The comparison analysis provides the view of different SDN-enabled IoT architectures and security solutions as upcoming trends.
