ABSTRACT
In the oil industry wells are constructed primarily to access oil and gas, and to control its production. There is a wide range of activities associated with this endeavor, but in this chapter, we will concentrate on those that are central to the drilling of the wellbore itself. Many excellent and detailed texts have been written on the drilling and well construction process [1–3], and the reader is recommended to consult these for a more comprehensive explanation.
