ABSTRACT

The internet has affected human life in a multidimensional way since it has occurred. In particular, it has improved our communication facilities incredibly and the opportunities it provides have created fast and effective forms of communication. Millions of people have gained the opportunity to interact instantly online. Although these possibilities have their good sides, they also have dark sides. People of all ages have had the opportunity to bully each other through email, chat rooms, smartphones, and social media platforms. Bullying, which is defined as deliberate aggression against a person who has difficulty in defending himself, takes the form of cyberbullying when done with the use of digital technological tools. These attacks can occur on social media, messaging platforms, gaming platforms, and mobile phones. They are behaviors that aim to frighten, annoy, embarrass, and intimidate the targeted, and are often repetitive. Cyberbullying has various effects on victims. Cyberbullying, which has a severe impact on young people, has serious consequences such as physical ailments, feeling insecure, depression, and increased suicidal tendencies. In this section, the conceptual definition of cyberbullying, which is one of the popular research topics of today, the types of cyberbullying, the age groups it affects, its results, and the current cyberbullying studies on social media platforms are examined. Besides, cyberstalking, which is a type of cyberbullying, is examined in more detail within the scope of this section. Finally, the solution methods developed and the studies that have been done to detect bullying on online social networking platforms are explained. In this way, it is aimed to be an important resource for those who are interested in cyberbullying and cyberstalking by introducing a holistic approach.
