ABSTRACT

Social networking has become a global phenomenon. People are more connected to each other than ever before and more, and along with this, more people are accessing social media via a mobile device. In 2020 there were over five billion social media users worldwide, with almost four billion users accessing social media through their mobile device. All this access is not without risk, as social media users are subject to various threats and bad actors that would hope to exploit, defraud, or steal from these almost four billion unsuspecting users. There is a false sense of security when using a mobile device because it is connected to a network that we have chosen to access. People need to be more aware of the risks of social media but also with mobile devices. Security and privacy are the new strategic priorities that everyone must embrace. Individuals and organizations need to take security steps to avoid being taken advantage of by others who might gain unauthorized access to secure information about an individual. Understanding the risks associated with mobile networks and social media and taking steps toward greater security is necessary to remain safe in an increasingly unsafe world.
