ABSTRACT

The medicinal plant-based immune boosters are highly valued all over the world, through various medical practices like Ayurveda, Siddha, traditional Chinese medicine, Taiwan's traditional medicine, and Unani. Even though medicinal plants attract great public interest around the world, the mechanisms by which they improve health remain a mystery. Researchers everywhere are working to understand how medicinal plant phytochemicals boost the functioning of the body's immune system. Their potential therapeutic value for improving human immune systems are particularly focused as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the studies suggest that treatments based on medicinal plants are best not from a single plant species, but that a combination of several medicinal plant components is more effective in preventing and controlling the disease by boosting the innate immunity. The aim of this chapter is to contribute to our understanding of the chemistry behind the role of medicinal plant compounds as immunity boosters.
