ABSTRACT

Applications of smart systems and enabling technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), are growing enormously. There is no discipline or field, despite smart devices, sensors, and their connectivity introducing a multitude of possibilities for new applications. IoT and simulation with agent-based modeling (ABM) are used in two case studies presented in this chapter. In the first case study, maintenance activity with a control parameter of failure rate is modeled in different scenarios, while the ordering from the pharmacies and the warehouse act as the primary active agents. In the second case study, maintenance activity of the IT room of a medical facility is modeled utilizing IoT to lower the overall cost and to analyze the effects of employing IoT.
