ABSTRACT

Road freight transport is the most critical transportation mode in Latin America, accounting for more than 70% of the region’s national cargo. Latin-American countries have a significant challenge to develop strategies to improve the logistic capacities for freight transportation. Several approaches have been proposed to facilitate logistics operations at a national scale using Big Data. However, the need to use analytics to facilitate decision making fills a gap: by integrating, processing, and analyzing information, key performance indicators can be developed. This chapter will address the results of the analysis of the information available in the National Registry of Cargo Dispatches (RNDC) of 2018 and 2019 to support the implementation of the National Logistics Policy (PNL) of Colombia by optimizing the processes of transportation, logistics, and national distribution of goods and merchandise. Moreover, connectivity with transportation networks and foreign trade nodes is promoted through an analytical tool to facilitate cargo transportation decisions.
