ABSTRACT

Certain metropolitan cities in India have Metro as public transport. In Delhi alone, 1.5 million passengers use the Metro services on a daily basis. The Metro currently uses two methods of ticketing namely token and smart-card based which works on the principle of Near-Field Communication Technology. In the coming period, various new cities are developing their respective Metro rails and would it be seen as a major public transport. This chapter deals with the alternate method of ticketing for the metro passengers based on facial recognition technology and how it can be implemented. It also shows how the passenger would be able to manage their own metro account. It attempts to identify a ticketing method that would no longer need a physical medium for travelling in the metro rail.
