ABSTRACT
Wastewater treatment is one of the oldest issues. Various methods have been developed for the treatment of wastewater including physical, chemical, and biological processes. Different segments of industries have their own needs for the treatment of waste water. This chapter provides brief scientific information regarding various treatments used for oil and gas effluents, heavy metal contaminated wastewater effluent, textile and fine chemical industries wastewater effluent, agrochemical waste water etc. This chapter reviews current technologies being used by different industries to treat various types of wastewater that is discarded into the environment. The wastewater produced by these industries depends on the nature of the products and their synthetic routes. Hence common treatment methods cannot be applied for all types of wastewater effluent.
