ABSTRACT

This Chapter focuses on the types of evidence, forensic samples, which might be collected from complainants and suspects. It is essential to have recommendations for the taking of forensic samples that are based on all available evidence. Regularly reviewed and updated guidelines ensure consistency, currency of practice and help identify knowledge gaps that need to be filled by future research. It is essential that forensic practitioners have training in the field of evidence collection prior to taking on the role to ensure that they are competent to manage the complex cases that present in the clinical forensic medical setting.
