ABSTRACT

The world population has been forecasted to increase drastically to 9 billion in the year 2050. Hence, there is a need to provide sustainable solutions to humankind’s challenges globally, including food insecurity, health issues, and a high level of pollution in the environment. Therefore, the application of nanomaterials has been identified as a sustainable solution that could mitigate the majority of all the aforementioned challenges facing humankind, most especially from the environmental, agricultural, and biomedical domains. Hence, this chapter will provide detailed information on the numerous types and roles of nanomaterials in resolving several challenges encountered in the environmental, agricultural, and biomedical fields. The modes of action through which these nanomaterials execute their activities were also highlighted.
