ABSTRACT

The evolution of digital camera has begun a while ago, and nowadays it is serving in multiple disciplines. Digital image processing techniques lead to qualitative improvements in images taken. Technologies influencing image processing, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, Internet of Things, cloud computing, and data science, have created a new notion named computer vision. Researchers and scientists are exploring image-processing techniques and computer vision algorithms to detect objects or extract features from an image or video. Detecting an object from the sequence of frames with undefined background was at times very problematic. The numerous detection and tracking challenges with the background exist, such as waving trees, fluctuation of light, foggy weather, and many more. Another challenge is due to difficulties in compensation for the camera motion. Retrieval of information or extraction of features was arduous, but computer vision algorithms and image-processing techniques together are leading to a steady improvement in extraction. Gradually, image processing has turned into a socially responsible area for researchers and developers. Fields like health care, military, transportation, mining, etc. are using these algorithms and techniques for detection and tracking of various objects. This chapter emphasizes the revolution brought up by image processing and computer vision for refinement of images and videos from different social perspectives. The particular challenges that are still facing the field of object detection and video tracking are also portrayed in the chapter.
