ABSTRACT
The evolution of a novel virulent strain of respiratory virus, coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, is an invisible enemy and a significant threat to human health. In the present chapter, we have shown the effectiveness of copper against coronaviruses. Copper is very important in the different biological and biochemical processes due to its ions Cu2+ and Cu+ having functions including oxidation, dioxygen transport, and electron transfer. Copper is a redox-active metal and can donate and accept electrons to shift between reduced (Cu+) and oxidized (Cu2+) states.
