ABSTRACT

Microbes occupy a major part of the planets’ living material; the greater part of the microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, spores, and fungi, is hazardous to living organisms including human beings. Infectious diseases kill over 17 million people per year according to WHO reports. Unfortunately, mortality rates of few years show new records due to the novel microbes including SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Generally, numerous disease-causing bacteria produce poisonous chemicals that harm cells. Viruses aren’t made out of cells; however, they are smaller than cells. Recently, various researches have been conducted in the development for the protection against various pathogens, which is more essential in paving way to the discovery of antimicrobial agents. This chapter provides the overall information on the microbes and their protection including the mechanism behind the microbes. The antimicrobial textiles for hygienic and medical purposes are discussed comprehensively.
