ABSTRACT

In the recent era, the next frontier in the healthcare system is blockchain technology. The quick growth of modern healthcare systems used actuators and sensors devices for operating and monitoring the patient’s health from time to time. Smart healthcare systems are an illustration of innovative smart and rapid growth wireless systems which exploit sensing, actuating, smart computing, artificial intelligence, emerging blockchain technology, and networking technologies for checking patients remotely as well as maintaining health records of patients in digital form. The growth and evaluation of the healthcare system increased the security challenges, the privacy problems, and the leakage of the integrity of the system since its wireless connectivity and openly accessing damage the security of the system. In the smart healthcare system, adjustment of security and privacy has represented substantial threats for both hospital or clinics and patients as well. To address the security and privacy problems and situations, there is a need for researchers to propose many solutions which are focused on these challenges of the modern healthcare system. Emerging and efficient blockchain technology may offer pervasive and sustainable solutions of smart healthcare systems which have biggest security and privacy challenges. In the present situations, blockchain technology is the greatest pervasive, emerging, sustainable, and growing technology in the security and data privacy area of healthcare systems and its applications, because of its features like peer-to-peer, distributed, decentralized storage, smart contracts, immutable ledgers, and cryptography. Blockchain technology provides a framework for healthcare organizations to handle and protect the patient’s data and prevent the alteration or modification of patient information while maintaining its accuracy. This chapter discusses the growing need for uniform levels of protection of data in smart healthcare computing systems, and our major goal is to perform systematic review with summarized existing problems of smart healthcare systems and provide solutions related to the securities and privacy of its data with the blockchain technology. The detailed technical concepts that may be applied to enhance security and privacy in healthcare systems at both levels like organization and patient levels are considered.
