ABSTRACT

Virtual reality (“VR”) is a revolutionary technology. Its uncanny ability to immerse users in new worlds continues to captivate and mystify. Much of these worlds explored in VR headsets involve a deeply rooted story. But telling a story in VR is vastly different than telling one in film, television, and theater. The author makes those distinctions clear and offers the reader alternative ways to tell stories in this nascent otherworldly landscape. Grounded in a foundation of traditional media, the author provides sobering advice on what to expect, what to avoid, and what levers to pull to create an unforgettable story for this fairly uncharted, yet exciting technology.
