ABSTRACT

Today the world is moving toward personalized medicine; hence health-and-wellness-oriented eating is becoming a big trend in the food space. The omics era of research has provided significant information regarding the genetic/biochemical variability of individuals, along with their nutrigenomics. Diet and the genome may influence various aspects of health through a variety of pathways/tools, including transcriptome, epigenome, metabolome, lipidome, proteome, and microbiome. It has been demonstrated that traditional foods deliver numerous biological functions through building materials, antioxidants, healing components, dietary fibers, probiotics, and so on. Traditional ancestors’ wisdom has claimed different foods for different stages of life that are found to be nutritionally rich. According to Aryan belief, food was considered a source of strength and a gift from God. Globalization and tremendously increasing nutritional research have made the citizens highly conscious with respect to food selections. Although people are following the advice of dieticians, the strategies followed in ancient times are returning due to growing scientific evidence. These nutriomic evidence around the globe will benefit the wealth of knowledge that has already been documented years and years ago. This chapter highlights various nutriomic-based facts related to the traditional Indian foods that are being used since ancient times.
