ABSTRACT

This chapter contends that while there surely is a great potential and ability in the digital realm to serve many large-scale human/societal solutions, its wholesale one-size fits all ‘borrowing’ as a ‘panacea’ for educational access and continuity needs to be critically debated and scrutinized, especially in the context of education in the global south. In this respect, engaging in critical explorations around notions of the “digital divide” and “digital inequalities” (but not limited to these) that persists not only in the global south but also in many parts of the global north is vital. These apparent symptoms of the digital divide point to deeper layers of inequalities, economic and social, which have exacerbated further during/due to the pandemic.
