ABSTRACT

With the advent in technology, life is getting easier and smoother. In every sector of science, research is in full swing. Devices are designed to work smarter and with intelligence without human intervention. The Internet of Things is formed when items are made sentient with computational power and linked to the internet. IoT is a new technology with numerous applications in various fields. One of the major areas where IoT will be outperforming is healthcare. The major bottleneck that has been attracting the attention of the researchers was simultaneous and fast diagnosis and redressal of several patients. With the use of IoT, not only remote monitoring has been promoted, but it has also reduced the length of hospital stay and, in turn, optimized the treatment cost. In this chapter we will be discussing various systems that have been developed for this purpose, such as Remote Patient Monitoring, Emergency Notification System, In Home Care, Smart Hospital Operations management, Smart health care devices and various IoT applications in healthcare. Healthcare wearable sensors and smart IoT embedded devices like wheel chair, oxygen pump, etc. facilitate in accomplishing the very basic objective of deploying IoT, i.e. real-time tracking and improved throughput of various healthcare systems.
